A few years ago, I was a flower farmer.
I started growing flowers because I wanted to stay home with my kids while still helping support our family. After the childhood I had, being present for my own children mattered more than anything.
Ironically, many of the skills I used came from growing up in Scientology. As a child, I was separated from my parents and put to work beginning at six years old. Part of that work was growing and harvesting vegetables for Scientology's international management base. I learned irrigation, weeding, harvesting, and caring for plants through punishment and forced labor.
Years later, I took those same skills and used them to build something completely different. It was one of the first times I intentionally took something that had caused me pain and turned it into something beautiful.
This vessel reminds me of that chapter of my life. It's meant to hold flowers, whether they're from your garden, a walk through the neighborhood, or the grocery store. To me, flowers have always represented building the kind of home I never had growing up, and the kind of home I wanted my own children to have.
Each piece is hand built, glazed, fired, and signed by me. It includes a built-in kenzan (pin frog) to support everything from lush bouquets to a single branch. No two are exactly alike, and that's intentional.
